Abhijith Seshadri, the BOSM Coordinator of the Department of Photography (DoPy), met the BOSM English Press at the Food Ministry (FM) for a chat over coffee, regarding the department’s functioning around the fest.
Abhijit relayed that the department’s primary work involved clicking informal snaps, which they proudly term as ‘fifteen rupee memories’, at the BOSM snaps. These are conducted at sky lawns, where students from various clubs, departments and sports teams dress up according to internal themes. He added that DoPy also covered sports matches, did stage photography and responded to requests for snaps to be shot for other departments in their tents at GymG during BOSM.
Abhijit explained that the DoPy snaps taken during BOSM were billed to the respective people through an internal billing app, which had been created in 2019 by a department alum, Raghu, and later refined to a better version by Shourin, a DoPy member currently in his third year. Each snap is tagged to the person concerned via a mess list database that is uploaded on the app every year. The most recent development in the app was the possibility of making some standard edits to the photos. He noted that the snaps would be delivered via email and in hard copy within fifteen days of BOSM.
Abhijith expressed satisfaction about the timely recruitment of the new batch conducted by his juniors through interactions. He stated that he was closely bonded with his juniors, and likened this bond to the one he had shared with his closest department seniors. He quoted a DoPy senior when asked about the experience of working at DoPy, describing it as being in a ‘flow state’.
Abhijith remarked on his satisfaction with the CoSSAc, who provided DoPy with all the required inventory for this edition of BOSM.
When asked about his advice to the GBM, he encouraged his juniors to take a ‘lite’ approach to life, have a fun time at college, and always come for snaps and enjoy themselves.
