The BOSM English Press met with Suryash Singh, the Coordinator for the Students’ Union Technical Team (SUTT), to get an insight into the tech team’s workings for the fest.
Suryash began by explaining that for BOSM, SUTT develops the portals for the different departments, the registration website, and the BOSM app. He stated that the BOSM app is used for event signings and food stall transactions, providing transparency between the CoSSAc, the administration, and the GBM. The portals that SUTT works on are for departments such as PCr, RecNAcc, Firewallz, BOSM Controls, as well as the Sports Financial Committee (SFC), for monitoring the different transactions.
Making note of the theme ‘Reign of Fire’, Suryash said that both the app and the website incorporated the mascot and also reflected the theme. Speaking of the website, he described it as ‘a promotional and attractive website’ to get outsiders more interested. He added that the website was designed primarily for outside participants, featuring a link to the registration portal and containing archives detailing events from previous editions of BOSM.
Suryash talked about the timeline and revealed that the design team starts working during the summer vacation, roughly a month before the campus reopens. The designs get ready within two to three weeks, following which the design and the backend teams start working together. He further stated that the website had been live since mid-August and that the app is aimed to be launched on Day 0 of BOSM. Suryash asserted that much of the real-world testing of the various portals has not been completed yet.
He mentioned that transferring knowledge to the junior batch is a general challenge, as most of the work for BOSM is handled by the new recruits, while seniors are present mainly to guide and support them. On a concluding note, Suryash divulged that his experience coordinating with different departments and the CoSSAc, as well as his interactions with them, has been smooth.
