With preparations for BOSM underway, the BOSM English Press approached Lavanya Jain, the Captain of the girls’ table tennis team, for a quick chat on the team’s preparations for the fest.
Lavanya shared that two girls’ teams from BITS Pilani were competing in this BOSM. She explained that teams consist of 3-4 players and matches are played in a best-of-five format, with the first two players taking on two matches each, while the third player contests a single match. A typical game lasts around ten minutes, and both individual and team events are part of the competition.
Discussing the team’s training regimen, Lavanya revealed that the players had been practising daily from 6:15 PM to 8:30 PM, where sessions began with warm-ups and running, followed by knocking drills, match play, and cool-downs. She admitted that while practice is not always as strict in the regular season, the intensity had been scaled up in the weeks leading up to BOSM.
Reflecting on their performance last year, Lavanya recalled how the girls had secured a bronze medal in an extremely close contest. This year, she expressed confidence that the team could perform even better, given their stronger roster and improved consistency. On the recruitment front, she mentioned that the team includes a promising group of juniors, among them a national-level recruit, alongside other talented additions. She expressed optimism that the new players would make meaningful contributions to the team this year and in the future.
Lavanya credited the CoSSAc for their support, citing improved facilities such as upgraded tables and equipment, as well as quick responses to logistical needs. In parting, she encouraged the student body, especially girls, to take part in sports.
