Swimming (Boys)

With BOSM inching closer, the BOSM English Press sat down with Aaditya Dhannawat, Vice-Captain of the swimming team, to gain an insight into the preparation and workings of the team.

Aaditya mentioned that the team had been on a break during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has since been reinstated, with everything now running smoothly. He said that until last year, they used the Rakesh Academy pool outside campus. This year onward, he noted, they had secured permission to use the one at Birla Public School, which significantly reduced the logistical hurdles.

Aaditya remarked that there are primarily four styles of swimming—freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, and the swimming team participates in all of them. As BOSM approaches, he said that the team will gradually decrease their training frequency to achieve the ‘taper’, and subsequently be at their best during BOSM.

Highlighting the team’s past achievements, Aaditya shared that they had won the championship trophy in the last edition of BOSM, for both individual and team categories. Additionally, he remarked they had earned laurels at several outstation sports meets as well.

Aaditya remarked that he felt at peace in the water, which motivated him to take up swimming. Talking about his experience as the Vice-Captain, he said that he had had to call people for practice and ‘deal with their excuses’ in case they did not show up. He remarked that he had to improve his game while being the Vice-Captain.

Aaditya revealed that the campus swimming pool is planned to reopen by 2028. On a parting note, he requested all BITSians to support and cheer for the swimming team.
