With BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM) just around the corner, the BOSM English Press sat down with Hariansh Jalan, the CoSSAcn for the Department of Publications and Correspondence, to learn more about their work for the fest.
Hariansh explained that the department has three verticals, with the primary one being Correspondence, which is responsible for inviting the colleges that participate in the fest. Every communication with outstation colleges before BOSM is routed through the department. They ensure that every sport has several participating teams and that no sport is underrepresented. The Design vertical is responsible for posters and the logo for BOSM. Finally, the third vertical is Reprography, spearheading all the publicity material any club needs and handling the printing of posters and standees.
Hariansh revealed that there was a last-minute change in the CoSSAcn of the department, and he was appointed in mid-July. This led to slight delays in the commencement of their preparations for the fest. He added that this time around, new sports like bodybuilding and jiu-jitsu posed unique challenges, as it was difficult to pinpoint the colleges that had an interested student pool. He explained that, during the fest, the department acted as a point of contact between the sport captains and outstation participants, and ensured timely communication amongst the teams. Additionally, the reprography vertical would be hosting the BOSM snaps over the weekend before the fest.
According to him, the department was on track with its preparations. Despite his last-minute appointment, there had been a smooth knowledge transfer from the previous CoSSAcn, facilitating his transition. Hariansh added that it had been a rollercoaster ride since he had been appointed, as it was quite a sudden change for him.Â
On a parting note, he encouraged everyone to go out and enjoy the games scheduled for this edition of BOSM.
