Department of Photography (DoPy)

The Oasis English Press managed to get hold of Amishi Arora, the Coordinator of the Department of Photography (DoPy), over a cup of chai at ANC to learn more about the workings of the department.

According to Amishi, DoPy would mainly click and bill informal snaps of people throughout all three fests, which would then be printed and delivered to their respective hostel rooms. She added that they were also involved in photographing other on-campus events throughout the year.

Amishi explained that they would host work sessions to practice clicking, detailing and more in the days leading up to the fest. She elaborated that the bulk of the department’s work was centred around the ‘snaps weekend’, which made it easier for them to enjoy the 96 hours of Oasis.

Amishi remarked that organising regular work sessions had been a challenge due to the dates for Oasis getting pushed forward; although positive developments, such as getting new inventory, made her job much easier.

Regarding her experience as a Coordinator, Amishi underlined that it had been pretty fun overall, despite being a big responsibility to shoulder. She also acknowledged the support received from Abhijith Seshadri, the BOSM ‘25 Coordinator of DoPy, and her immediate juniors in managing department activities.

As a parting note, Amishi advised those attending their first Oasis to always carry a jacket with them, explore as much of the fest as possible, and always oblige a DoPy photographer with a snap. Despite their low price tag, she added, DoPy snaps were truly ‘priceless’.
