With Oasis ‘25 around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with Keshav Ramachandran, the Coordinator of the Department of Lights, to understand more about the work they do for the fest.
Keshav mentioned that the Department controlled the lights in the Main Auditorium for the Inauguration and ensured that the sequence and colours of the lights were proper. He said that the Department handled the lights during the run-throughs. He stated that certain clubs, like the Dance Club and the Hindi Drama Club, had requests to spotlight particular positions during their performances.
He mentioned that the department helped the Dance Club shoot a video a few days before the fest. As the Coordinator, Keshav revealed that he was also required to ensure that all requisitions had been filed properly.
When asked about the BITS facilities, Keshav mentioned a lack of a proper working framework for lights. He said that the entire auditorium power supply could get cut simply by ‘running a sequence of lights multiple times’. He stated that switching on all the lights often overloaded the circuits, and the LED lights were also faulty at times. He also added that there were occasional issues with the technicians, wherein they might not arrive on time and cause a delay in operations.
As a parting note, Keshav urged every BITSian to have fun at Oasis.
