Indic Club

The Oasis English Press sat down with Aditi Sharma, the Coordinator of Indic Club, to talk about the club’s work in Oasis ‘25.

Aditi began by explaining that there were two events being conducted by the club this year, and  that they were also going to host talks given by guest speakers both offline and online.

Delving into the events being held during the fest, she  explained that one of the events, ‘Dyuta’, would involve participants playing Chausar—the ancient Indian board game played between the Pandavas and Kauravas in the Indian epic Mahabharata.

Their other event would be based on the Brahmi script, an ancient Indian script found in many relics and manuscripts. She elaborated that the club had converted the script into a puzzle; players would be given hints which they would then use to decipher the code.

The club had also invited a guest speaker, Smt. Maitri Goswami, to deliver a talk on how the Puranas taught their readers Vedic principles. Aditi added that the club would also be conducting a couple of online talks delivered by guest speakers on various topics. One of the speakers, Koenraad Elst, had a pivotal role in the excavation of the Ram Mandir conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India and would be talking about his experience with the same.

Other guest speakers would include writers such as Shrikant G. Talageri, who would talk about the Rigveda, and Medha Bhaskaran, who would be talking about Maratha history.

When asked about the incentive behind their events, Aditi responded that history, culture, and philosophy were not particularly popular topics of interest amongst students and that is why the club looked for ways to pique the interest of a general BITSian.

On a parting note, Aditi remarked that people should try learning more about India’s cultural history through the events of the Indic Club this Oasis.
