With Oasis ‘25 only a few days away, the Oasis English Press caught up with Samravi Siva, the Oasis Coordinator of the Dance Club, for a quick chat to get an overview of their plans and preparations for the upcoming fest.
She explained that the Dance Club had five dance forms: western, semi-western, folk, contemporary, and video production, each of which conducted separate activities during Oasis. In addition to this, the Dance Club also competed in various competitions. She added that this year, they would be conducting two events—Razzmatazz, a legacy event wherein teams from all over the country are invited to compete across various disciplines, and Desert Duel, which is a solo dance competition.Â
Samravi said that they did not have any plans on incorporating the theme of the fest into their events. She mentioned that the Dance Club had been practising extensively since August, with daily three hour sessions. Speaking on challenges that they had faced so far, she explained that Oasis was an extremely popular fest and that many of the teams which had registered for the group dance events were not selected to participate in the competition, causing them to be disappointed. Another issue was that many of the participants did not read the rulebook, which may have led to confusion.
Samravi said that around ten freshers had been inducted through auditions conducted at the start of the semester. She remarked that the Dance Club had evolved since her joining in 2022, and that there had been a sharp increase in registrations to their events over the years as the COVID effect had finally worn off, which was heartening to see.
On a parting note, Samravi said that the Dance Club had worked incredibly hard since the start of the semester and that it would mean the world to them if students showed up to watch their events, especially the two competitions. She also added that any form of support would be greatly appreciated since they would be competing against professional teams that do this for a living.
