With Oasis ’25 just around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with Vaibhav Singh, the Oasis Coordinator of the Photography Club (Photog), to learn more about the workings of the club and their role in the upcoming fest.
Vaibhav mentioned that Photog would be organising five events during the fest this year. These events include Gallery, taking place in room 2204 in FD-2, where Photog will showcase single shots taken by the members right before the fest, in an art gallery style. The Gallery will also include a Hall of Fame, which will display their best shots taken throughout the semester.
Apart from that, the club will also be organising Pixel, an online photography competition that is open for all to participate, along with Capture Oasis, where participants can post the pictures they take during Oasis. Photog is also organising Retro Cam, where people can ‘get a feel of how things were done back in the day’, by renting film cameras, and Photo Booth where people can come with their friends and capture memories.
Vaibhav stated that Photog is also the official photography partner of the fest and will be covering all events including the Prof shows, the HDC play, and Robo Wars, amongst others. When asked about his experience as the coordinator, he mentioned that it was hectic, involving too much paperwork and ‘logistical issues’. He continued to add that with great support from his juniors, it was manageable.
He pointed out that the club had started working towards meeting their logistical requirements two months prior, while the ideation for the panels in the Gallery had started 3 weeks before the fest. While referring to the problems they faced, he mentioned, ‘Not a lot of people come to attend these events even after the immense effort that goes behind them. So that is something I hope that can change’.
On a final note, Vaibhav encouraged BITSians to enjoy the fest as much as possible and to visit the Gallery as that is ‘not an event to miss’.
