With the fest right around the corner, the Oasis English Press (OEP) sat down with Deepanshu Jain, the Coordinator of the Hindi Drama Club (HDC), to understand their participation in Oasis ‘25.
Deepanshu explained that the HDC is a club of drama enthusiasts who perform theatrical plays, on campus and occasionally outside, to express the beauty of theatre. He explained that this year the HDC would be participating in the Department of Theatre’s (DoT) Stage Play competition. The club has planned to perform a 60-minute long Hindi adaptation of the Greek tragedy – Medea. He noted that they had wanted a play that was ‘crisp yet strong’ and Medea had perfectly fit the description.
When asked about their preparations for the fest, Deepanshu stated that the club had started during the summer break. He further talked about the challenges they faced, which included carving out time during the vacation in order to allocate four to five hours for practice regularly, arranging props and securing funding. He further stated that the club used to be allocated no money, a few years back and still ran tight. He said that the prize money won from competitions constituted the major part of their budget.
Deepanshu revealed that his experience as a Coordinator had been a ‘roller coaster of highs and lows’. He remarked that helping his juniors out of challenges they faced and avoiding the mistakes his seniors had made, was a great learning experience.
In regard to the StuCCA, Deepanshu said that his experience with the had been ‘amazing’. They had helped the club with managing funding, production items and securing time in the Main Auditorium for rehearsals. He also added that the Department of Controls and the Publicity and Correspondence had been cooperative.
Deepanshu concluded by saying that the BITSians ‘should come out of their rooms and enjoy the spirit of the fest’. He encouraged young engineers to experience and embrace the performative arts, as ‘they were an integral part of college life’.
