Department of Photography

With APOGEE right around the corner, the APOGEE English Press sat down with Siddhant Mishra, the Coordinator of the Department of Photography (DoPy), to understand the department’s role in the fest.

Siddhant explained that DoPy’s primary activities in the odd semester revolve around snaps, particularly batch snaps, during which they take diverse pictures of the attendees ranging from themed group pictures to more formal portraits which accounts for a major part of the department’s revenue.

He mentioned that in addition to batch snaps, the department also works in APOGEE Snaps about a week before the fest. These are simpler sessions where people come in and get their pictures taken. During APOGEE itself, the department does not have extensive formal responsibilities, apart from covering major events.

Speaking about challenges, Siddhant highlighted a few key issues faced by the department. One of the recurring concerns has been the uncertainty regarding their allotted room, which has long been a working space for DoPy. Additionally, the department faced delays in printing snaps due to technical issues, which affected timelines and added pressure to their already tight schedule. He also stated that the department continues to have inventory problems and requires auxiliary but essential equipment.

He explained that the process after clicking pictures is quite extensive; sorting, editing, organising, and distributing snaps—all within a short span before academic commitments resume. Despite all of the challenges Siddhant stated, the department continues to work towards completing everything efficiently.

Siddhant further shared that DoPy has consistently performed well in terms of revenue, driven largely by batch snaps. While he did not specify targets, he expressed confidence that the department would meet its goals this year as well.

Reflecting on his experience as a coordinator, Siddhant described it as an enjoyable and insightful experience. He expressed an interest in building stronger connections with his team and gaining a better understanding of how the department functions.

As a final note, Siddhant conveyed that these photographs often become lasting reminders of one’s time on campus, making them an integral part of their college experience and urged readers to make the most of them.
