American Institute of Chemical Engineers

With APOGEE right around the corner, the APOGEE English Press sat down with Kanika Obhan, the Coordinator of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) chapter of BITS Pilani, to know more about the club’s contributions to the fest.

Kanika said that AIChE was a global organisation with over sixty thousand members. Its main goal was to make chemical engineering fun and accessible to all. She said that the BITS Pilani chapter of AIChE had competed in competitions all across the globe and had recently represented the college at the Student Regional Conference (SRC) in the U.S. It also had an active Instagram page used for posting engineering-related content and hosting games connected to STEM and chemical engineering.

Kanika said that her main goal was to get people interested in chemical engineering and that AIChE’s events were a great way for them to ‘bond with the elements.’ Their legacy event, Chem-E Jeopardy, was based on the quiz show Jeopardy! but with a ‘chemical twist’, she said. They also have a booth at APOGEE, where they will be conducting a slime-making workshop. She said that the students could pick from a lot of different types of slime and even take them home.

Speaking about her role as an APOGEE Coordinator, Kanika said that ‘everything was going well.’ Her team, which consisted of students across all batches, was busy making the questions for Chem-E Jeopardy and was also working on writing some research papers in the field of chemical engineering. They had also planned to show off the newest improvement to their ChemECar, a miniature car model, made using TinkerCad, that ran on ‘secret’ and ‘precise’  iodine-based chemical reactions, which were used to propel the car forward.

On a closing note, Kanika encouraged everybody to come to the various game stalls set up during APOGEE ’26. She also said she wanted the fest to go well and for everyone to learn something new from it.
