Students’ Academic Cell

The APOGEE English Press interviewed Garvit Budania, the Coordinator of the Students’ Academic Cell (SAC) to understand their work during the upcoming fest.

Garvit introduced SAC as a Director’s body which was created in 2018. He explained that the aim of SAC was to enrich the academic and research culture on campus by conducting events like the SI talk and the PS talk every year.

Garvit stated that SAC would be conducting their flagship event, Quantaculus, this APOGEE with a prize pool of 40,000 Rupees. The quant-based event spanned over four rounds, with the rounds focusing on logic, mathematics, and coding.

Garvit expressed SAC’s expectation of significantly increasing the participation for Quantaculus. He added that they had already increased the number of applicants from 480 to about 600 this year and, therefore, expected a larger prize pool.

When asked about their preparation for the event, Garvit explained that they had begun preparing the questions twenty days prior to the mid semester examinations and conducted the first slot of the first round on March 29th. He mentioned that he faced no issues in collaborating with the CostAA and negotiating the prize pool.

Talking about improvements, Garvit explained how booking a smaller room last year had led to congestion. This year however, with the help of the Department of Controls, they had been allotted one of the biggest rooms in the New Academic Building (NAB).

Garvit called his experience as a Coordinator ‘enriching’, having taught him many new things.  He concluded by encouraging all BITSians to have fun during APOGEE and extended an invitation to participate in Quantaculus.
