Chemistry Association

The APOGEE English Press sat down with Sneha Jain, the Coordinator for the Chemistry Association, to gain an insight into their role ahead of the fest.

Sneha explained that the Chemistry Association is a body where students of the Chemistry Department get together to foster an interactive bond and create an environment of compatibility between the faculty and the students. She added that they maintain this connection throughout the year by organising activities such as the Faculty Cricket Match, the Association Grub, and formal farewell dinners for graduating seniors.

When asked about their fest events, Sneha explained that the Chemistry Association would execute its flagship event, ‘WHODUNNIT’. She elaborated that this is a two-day mystery room where the first day takes place all throughout the campus, and the second day transitions into a single room featuring custom artwork and decorations.  While the event inculcates chemistry into its clues, Sneha clarified that participants do not need to be experts, and alongside these clues, the event would offer various challenges as an alternate way to advance to the next round. Notably, the event is free for everyone and features a prize of INR 5000 plus goodies. She added that revolving around ‘Stranger Things’, this year’s event features a mystery that mirrors the show’s ‘upside down’ concept; when participants reach the conclusion, they will face a twist that will reverse their expectations and reality.

Speaking of the time commitment before the fest, Sneha noted that the preparations began a bit over a month ago, involving two to three meets a week to develop clues and challenges. She added that the team was currently in the middle of intense work sessions, particularly for the decorators who were transforming the final room into an immersive experience.

Sneha revealed that while she was initially scared of the workload and the pressure of managing a flagship event, the experience had been ‘pretty fun’. She fondly noted that interacting with the juniors and the seniors has been a highlight.

On a parting note, Sneha encouraged everyone to make the most of their limited time on campus. She expressed regret over going home during her first year and urged the batch of 2025 to stay and experience college life. She urged students to participate in these events to build lasting networks and memories.
