The BOSM English Press sat down with the Principal Signatories of the Sports Financial Committee ahead of BOSM 2026 to discuss the organisation and planning of the fest.
When asked to elaborate on their role as a key body involved in the fest, the signatories explained that the duties of the committee could be broadly classified into three baskets—namely electoral, financial, and constitutional. They elaborated that the electoral responsibilities involve the elections for the posts of the Hostel Sports Representatives, the Sports Secretary, and the interviews for the Joint Sports Secretaries. As for finance, the SFC oversees the budgeting and the finances of all the events listed under the Sports Union Constitution, which includes BOSM, Inter-BITS, Intra-BITS, BPL, Junoon, and any other outstation and external tournaments. They ensure the timely reimbursement and clearing of all bills, and their work with regard to the constitution involves its interpretation and amendment.
The signatories shared that, running up to the fest, they often had to face friction and disagreements with the various stakeholders due to differing views on what proportion of the budget should be allocated to them. They noted that during the days of the fest, they often had to run around on the ground and fix issues, such as a shortage of accommodation in the previous iteration of BOSM.
On what they would be doing differently this fest, the SFC commented that due to an amount in the neighbourhood of twenty lakhs raised in profit over the various sporting events last year, they could increase the scale of the concert, add a new auditorium show, subsidise the cost of jerseys and jackets as well as coaching for the teams, and bear the cost of bringing in referees for the events. The SFC continued that due to last year’s aforementioned issue with accommodation, the related processes were also streamlined.
Commenting on the smoothness of planning this fest, the signatories said that while time management was not handled as well as the previous year, things had proceeded smoothly this time despite the increased scale. Wrapping things up, the committee added that for the fledgling batch, this BOSM would be their first escape from the world of academics at BITS. One signatory made a tongue-in-cheek remark, urging freshers to spend as much as they could, and concluded by saying that fests are an essential part of BITSian culture and that the student body should engage with them as much as they can.
