Communo

With Oasis ’26 knocking at the door, the Oasis English Press sat down with Riya, the Coordinator of Communo, to discuss the club’s preparations for the fest.

She started by explaining that Communo focused on developing its members’ soft skills, including but not limited to effective communication, presentation skills, and overcoming stage fright. These skills were developed through interactive sessions conducted throughout the year. The club also explored debating, with plans to introduce case-based competitions in the upcoming semester.

When asked about their plans for Oasis, she explained that Communo was organising a Scavenger Hunt, in which participants would complete a series of fun tasks in teams to earn points and in the end all the points for the tasks will be added and the highest wins. These tasks could range from dancing to a particular song and submitting a video to completing other unconventional challenges. The tasks would also incorporate elements of this year’s fest theme (Dawn of the Djinns). Having organised a similar event during Apogee the previous semester, the club hoped to build on its success at Oasis. The previous edition had attracted around 150 participants, and the team expected a larger turnout during the fest.

Riya further explained that the tasks were designed to be ‘out-of-the-box’ and entertaining, incorporating ‘brain rot’ elements to make them more engaging for participants. The club’s 25–30 members contributed ideas during brainstorming and practice sessions.

Discussing the progress of preparations; she explained that planning had begun after recruitment was finalised around Midsems. The team had since been working on developing the event’s structure and finalising the tasks for the Scavenger Hunt.

When asked about the challenges involved in organising the event, she noted that publicity of the events could sometimes pose a challenge. She explained that many people confused the event with a conventional treasure hunt. To counter this, the team planned to conduct the activities in visible, open areas such as M lawns, unlike last year, allowing more people to witness the tasks and better understand the event.

Speaking about her experience as Coordinator; she described it as a learning opportunity that had taught her a lot about planning and organising events. She also spoke about the challenges of managing the process, particularly when multiple meetings were required to finalise decisions. She added that at the end of the day, much of the planning and ideation fell on her as she was the Coordinator.

On a concluding note, she encouraged BITSians to participate in the Scavenger Hunt, highlighting the opportunity to interact with different teams and enjoy the unconventional tasks of the event together.
