Indic Club

With Oasis ’26 just a few days out, the Oasis English Press sat down with Pratham Hegde, President of the Indic Club, to talk about the club’s plans for this edition of the fest.

Pratham explained that Indic Club had been founded to conduct cultural events and foster discussions about Indian philosophy and cultural history, with the goal of reviving Indian culture. He elaborated that students in engineering colleges tend to not have a ‘keen interest in Indian culture’ despite having a greater interest in world history and foreign cultures and histories.

He revealed that this year, they would be conducting a talk by Sanjeev Sanyal on ancient Indian mercantile activities. He added that Indic used to conduct Chausar (an ancient version of Ludo) up until last year. They also originally planned to organise an archery event this year. These events were scrapped due to a lack of manpower owing to Oasis being just before Diwali. Pratham also said that they would not be setting up a stall this year, as it ‘had not worked out that great’ in the past.

When asked about their recruitments this year, he explained that since Indic Club generally recruited around mid-September, when most juniors were already in their own clubs, and thus they were not able to improve recruitments from the previous years. He added that the juniors had been entrusted with calling guest speakers for talks. He noted that moving forward, recruitments for the club would be taken at earlier dates in order to build more manpower.

Pratham said that Indic’s work had started two weeks before Oasis. He stated that to keep the events related to the theme of Oasis 2026, the talks would be about maritime trade in ancient India, and added that the main part of the remaining work was advertising these talks.

On a parting note, Pratham encouraged everyone to come to the talks and mentioned that an online link would also be shared with everyone for the same.
