Anamaya Vishal Jha, the BOSM coordinator of the Department of Live Events (DLE) met the BOSM English Press for a casual chat to give an update on the events one can look forward to this BOSM. DLE handles the entertainment aspect during BOSM, which includes Rotunda events, Adventure Zone (in Gym G), and the Prof-Show.
For the first time in BOSM history, the Prof-Show will be a stand-up comedy event featuring Sumit Anand and Rahul Subramaniam. ‘Comedy in itself has enjoyed a lot of attention, and I don’t see the attendance going down. Since it is a free show, it will draw more attention to the event’, says Vishal. Adventure zone which previously included Zorbing and VR has been revamped this year to include newer activities while Rotunda events boast of freestyle football and Punjabi Gatka. DLE is also involved in the popular LAN gaming event- Ignition.
The department works in a structured manner, with all members divided into four sections- production, hospitality, ticketing and publicity. ‘The job of looking for famous artists is solely the coordinator’s, while the juniors look for artists to perform for Rotunda events and Adventure Zone’, says Vishal. As coordinator, Vishal’s experience has been wholesome and has provided him with tremendous learning opportunities.
Regular classes during BOSM usually affects the fest negatively in terms of attendance and efficiency of departments. However, Vishal feels that this has minimal impact on DLE’s performance, as most of its events begin in the evening and extend well into the night.
The department has had a tumultuous history, from being a club which used to handle DJ night, to becoming the Department of Live Events which now handles EDM night and popular Prof-Shows. ‘Every coordinator tries to do something bigger and better than last year- that is how we transitioned from a club into a department. This year, it is my responsibility to help the department reach new heights and I will try my best to do so’, he remarks.
Vishal wishes to say this to the general BITSian: “For the first time, there will be a free Prof-Show in BOSM; you have no excuses to not attend it. It will be a great show, where two great artists are coming. Rotunda shows will be pretty lively too – do attend them as they’re an important part of BOSM.”
