Despite being busy, Abhishek Agarwal, the NSS Coordinator for this BOSM, agreed to meet the BOSM English Press for an interview. The curt instructions he was seen giving on the phone during the interview reflected the stress that is a part and parcel of being a post-holder in NSS.
NSS organized the sixth edition of Junoon, their pre-BOSM cultural and sports event, on the 9th and 10th of this month. The club contacted seven NGOs from Jaipur and Delhi and each of them brought around twenty-five specially abled participants, all around ten to twelve years old. The inauguration happened on the afternoon of the 9th, which was followed by a movie screening and recreational activities organized by the poetry club. The participants were a part of special sports events organised for them on the following Morning. Junoon concluded with Junoon Nite where the children gave dance and music performances. This time, the club collaborated with Tata Steel Rural Development Society and brought three specially abled professional performers for the Nite. This was also the first time that Junoon managed to procure an official sponsor, after years of vain attempts. The extra funding significantly improved the popularity of the event and NSS was hopeful that the future editions of the event would benefit too.
The planning and preparations for the BOSM related activities of the club begins in May, as chief guests need to be contacted two to three months prior to the event. Moreover, regular classes during the fest make it all the more difficult for the club members. ‘The past few weeks have been very hectic, but the dedication of the members in the Junoon team has significantly reduced my workload’, the visibly sleep-deprived coordinator said. Witnessing Junoon however is an experience in itself. ‘Watching the kids perform exceptional feats urges us to push our boundaries as well’, Abhishek said. He can breathe a sigh of relief now that Junoon is over and a major chunk of the BOSM related work is done.
NSS looks forward to yet another wonderful edition of BOSM and requests BITSians to lend their support to the events of the club.
