After the tumultuous few weeks of mid-semester exams and closely packed holidays, the Public Policy Club has started gearing up for the final stretch before Oasis. Their event is a new addition to Oasis this year. “Debating events see a lack of participation in Oasis. We are providing a better and interesting platform to get debating more attention.” said the Atul Kumar, the coordinator, on their role in Oasis.
The event the club is conducting is ‘Turncoat’. The essence of the game is ‘the contestant will be their own competition’. They will be given a topic to debate on and they have to switch between ‘for’ and ‘against’ at the command of the judge. So, they debate against themselves and a few of the topics for the event tie in to the theme to keep it related to the fest.
The preparation for the event wasn’t a cumbersome process for the club as the work was distributed well. They ensured that this event didn’t come in the way of the general functioning of the club. Each senior was assigned 10 topics with a general idea to keep the themes funny and the first and second years did all the groundwork.
As coordinator, Atul had to do the monumental task of convincing StuCCA to incorporate this event into Oasis after designing the event. It is impressive to note that he managed to do his part without compromising on the other work of the club. The Public Policy Club invites everyone to participate in their event to get a different sense of debating.
