After DVM exited BOSM during the BRC, the English Press interviewed the Coding Club, who had been competing with DVM for creating the BOSM app. Coding Club was started five years ago and currently has 60 active members. The club is divided into four teams dedicated to web development, app development, game development, and competitive coding. The club’s work includes making a Roulette  app for BOSM, a game for Oasis and conducting a pre-APOGEE workshop

Last BOSM, the club tried to integrate their Roulette app into the official BOSM app made by DVM, since both contained similar information. The collaboration with DVM didn’t go very well – the two teams did not get along well and the coding conventions followed differed significantly. The end result was an app which kept crashing every few days.

After BOSM 2016, the club – being confident in their app development team – approached the CoSSAc and asked them if they could try their hand at making the official BOSM app. The CoSSAc asked the club to submit a prototype 15-20 days after the summer break began. The CoSSAc was happy with the app prototype and the customizations added later. They sent a mail to the club stating that Coding Club would be making the official BOSM app.

The final app required a few changes in the backend which would take a lot of time and work. Before beginning work on the final app, the club asked the CoSSAc to confirm that DVM had no problem with them making the official BOSM app. The CoSSAc asked the club to go forward with the app, stating that DVM was fine with this change.

About 10-15 days prior to BOSM 2017, DVM found out about Coding Club making the official app. A confrontation between DVM and the CoSSAc ensued at SAC, which ended with DVM threatening to take the website down and consequently storming out of the room. The CoSSAc decided to stick to their decision of going with Coding Club’s app. That very day, the website went down for a few hours. Soon after this incident, the CoSSAc declared DVM’s app as the official BOSM app.

Post DVM’s withdrawal from BOSM, Coding Club has been in regular talks with the CoSSAc. However, the club’s representative refused to discuss details of the talks. When asked about how the club will manage on such a large scale, he stated that they have already started programming for next BOSM. Since the club has dedicated teams for web and app development, the only major cause for concern is RegSoft – the registration software used by departments during BOSM. When asked about this, the club seemed quite confident in their abilities, stating that ‘RegSoft is like a backend focused website functioning on an offline server. We’re confident that we’ll be able to handle it.’

On their thoughts on the fight between DVM, CoSSAc and themselves, he expressed his respect for DVM’s work, while agreeing that the department behaved recklessly during the review meet. The club’s representative said ‘The fight should not have occurred. It reflects badly on the Institute if two teams working together cannot create a functional app. We’ll try our best to make next BOSM the best till date.’
