David Stork is one of the two international speakers in the speaker lineup this APOGEE, and is here to deliver a talk in BITS-ACM’s event Defrag. He will be talking about how the “hard humanities” field of computer image and analysis of art is changing our understanding of paintings and drawings. He also plans to speak about further exploration of computer vision, pattern recognition and image analysis of works by famous artists. Mr. Stork has completed his BS in Physics at MIT, following which he did a PhD in University of Maryland. He is a passionate about technology; he believes that technical invention is an art. In his opinion, it is these pieces of art that have shaped the future of our world, right from Florence in the Rennaisance to Silicon Valley in the current digital age.
Mr. Stork is a Rambus fellow and heads research in the Computational Sensing and Imaging Group in Rambus Lab. He holds 43 US patents and has published over 200 scholarly articles and book reviews. He has delivered over 500 conference, university and museum lectures. His technical contributions have been in theoretical mechanics, computational imaging, computer vision, pattern classification, computational data acquisition, concurrency theory, and cryptography. His recent work on computational imaging led to an invited presentation and a Best Paper award from SensorComm 2013 and a best Technology Award from Mobile World Congress 2014.
Besides being a senior member of ACM, he is also an integral part of IEEE and International Academy, Research, and Industry Association (IARIA). His talk has the potential to be an informative and inetersting one, and is surely something one can check out this APOGEE.
