SU Yearly Review

President – Bhratharatna Puli

Manifesto Point Performance Comments Grade
Intra-Campus Shuttle No progress has been made. Other issues were found to be more important. Not a major manifesto point, but that doesn’t change the fact that no work has been done. E
Google Summer of Code – SU Technical Team One session was held in collaboration with ACM. A separate group was made for those students whose projects were submitted. More sessions couldn’t be held as the GSoC deadlines clashed with APOGEE and exams. A good initiative that can really benefit students if properly continued. B
Practice Division Student Team A student team was formed and will be functional in August. The point was well received by the PSD and it was successfully completed. A
Co-Working Space The handover for FD1 was initially scheduled for October 31st, but is yet to be completed. The layout for the co-working space has been finalised. The project was delayed due to a delay in FD-1 being handed over to the EMU by the Project Parivartan team. B-
SAFE (Smart, Authenticated, Fast Exams) The proposal has been handed over to ARD. It has been tested internally and is being compared to other options. The manifesto point was unlikely to be completed within a year given that it required extensive testing and Institute approval. B-

Cycle Rental Service The repairing of cycles took much longer than expected and the cycles themselves were provided in February rather than September. Apart from the delay, the point was successfully completed. A-
Student Union Portal The website is up and running. Expenses on the site are not up-to-date. A-

Miscellaneous

Laundromat Fabric softening and dry cleaning require extra infrastructure which isn’t available. There have been multiple complaints against Laundromat. Another franchise will be set up in CVR.

C-
Sheds and Benches The project has been approved by the Director and will be completed during the summer.

Not exactly the most anticipated manifesto point.

FK Revamp FK was refurbished and they were provided a TV.

While there has been an improvement in the seating area, quality of food has seen no such change.  The TV also seems to be missing from FK.

Jawed Habib Salon An MoU has been signed between Javed Habib and an investor. The salon will hopefully be operational next year.
Fruit juice counters outside SAC A contract was signed but there was a difference between requirements and what the Institute was willing to provide. Ultimately, no progress was made.

CGPA – 7.25

Outside the manifesto points, the President took several other steps to improve campus life. BITS of Fitness, a three-day workshop was organised in September after BOSM. It aimed to “tackle depression and imbibe a healthy routine among students”. The turnout was poor due to students finding the workshop expensive, but it was well received by attendees. A passport camp was set-up for a couple of days along with Satyansh Rai, the President-elect. Around 700-800 applications were received of which 312 students were successfully provided passports. A total amount of 98000 was reimbursed to students, after several complaints were received regarding the cab vendor Bhagwati travels. Their contract was terminated, and the tender has now been handed to NG tours and travels.

General Secretary – Shivam Jindal

Student Service Portal

A portal couldn’t be set up in collaboration with SWD due to logistical issues. A separate SU website has been set up which is expected to be fully functional from next semester. Minutes of a few UC meets have been mailed to the GBM. Data for the Hall of Fame has been collected. Comments: While a separate website has been set up, many of the promised features haven’t been implemented on it. Minutes of several meets haven’t been sent to the GBM. B
Centre of Excellence – Internet of Things

: The Centre of Excellence for Internet of Things has not been implemented due to lack of staff for the Centre. The idea was too ambitious from the very start and alternate options should’ve been considered before giving up on the idea. E
Let’s Intern!

This point wasn’t implemented since PU introduced a separate internship process last semester. While the PU internship season is open only to pre-final year students, the original point intended to benefit first year students. No progress was made on this front. C-

Promotion of technical and cultural activities on campus

SU collaborated with BITSAA for generating funds for technical teams (Inspired Karters). A few clubs have benefited from the proposal. However, the promised crowdfunding platform has not been set up. B
Snack Vending Machines

This point was shot down by the Institute due to logistical issues like storage of extra snacks. The requisite permissions should have been obtained from the institute before including this. This point could’ve been implemented after smoothing out a few details. D
Jawed Habib Salon

The long promised Jawed Habib salon hasn’t been set up yet. All logistical hurdles have been cleared and contracts have been signed. The salon should be up and running from the next semester. One is yet to be seen how successful this point is. Given that the very same excuse has been used several times in the past, one needs to take this news with a pinch of salt. B-
Multifarious

Jindal claims that SAC timings have been extended. The Institute refused to extend GymG timings as the number of people it would benefit was too less. Free WiFi hasn’t been set up in the library due to lack of infrastructure. According to the SAC Chowki, the SAC timings have not been extended. Requisite background work should have been done before proposing the other points.

CGPA – 5.57
