Music Club

During Oasis, Music Club’s work is threefold — perform during the inauguration ceremony, host the vocal talent competition Andholika, and participate in the classical-rock fusion competition, Tarang. As coordinator, Deepak Vasudevan is responsible not only for coordinating between different clubs and departments for the club’s work at Oasis, but also as the head representative for the team during its participation at Tarang.

On account of inauguration being their biggest event, Music Club practices extensively for the same. This practice usually begins a week before midsems, and gradually goes up as Oasis comes closer.

Andholika, the vocal talent competition tests the versatility of the participants by making them sing across a variety of genres and formats. The preliminary rounds take place before Oasis, and the qualified contestants are then given songs to prepare by Music Club. At the finals, members of the club will also serve as the backing musicians for the singer. The club is heavily involved in the organising of Andholika, including the selection of judges. Andholika involves heavy organizational participation on part of Music Club, as the club organizes the whole thing, all the way down to deciding the judge panel for the finals. Judges this year include the vocalist from Hansraj Projekt, and one vocalist from the Furtados’ School of Music ensemble, who are also slated to perform on Day 2 of the fest.

There are no new events being organised by Music Club this year, but the club itself has made minor changes in terms of how they went about doing things this year — instead of singing a medley of songs at the Inauguration Ceremony, they plan on putting up one concurrent performance.

Deepak Vasudevan, the Music Club coordinator for Oasis’18, has learnt a lot from his time in the club. In addition to his skills as a musician, the club has also helped him grow as a person. He is thankful to his colleagues and friends in the club for giving him so many memories and an invaluable experience.
