Nirmaan

While most of Nirmaan’s members had gone home for the Dussehra holidays, Shubham Jain, their coordinator, stayed back to complete the group’s pending work. In spite of considerable workload to finish preparations on time, he agreed to talk about his club’s plans for this Oasis.

Nirmaan, which translates to creation, is an organization started by students from BITS Pilani, that works for the welfare of people in the villages around Pilani. With a strength of around one hundred and twenty members, the group has undertaken various projects – educating students, finding employment opportunities for women, career counselling, and overall community development.

Oasis is used as a platform by Nirmaan to publicize their work and to raise funds for their projects. As usual, a stall to sell ethnic products like diyas and earrings will be set up. The revenue generated through the sale of these products are given to the craftswomen who made them. As a part of their plan to raise funds, they will also organize their popular “Food Challenge”.

Shubham feels that everyone has a soft corner for the less privileged and so urges more BITSians to take part in Nirmaan’s events, because through these events one can get an opportunity to connect with them. Keeping that in consideration, attracting participants and getting people to notice that their events are for a charitable cause has always been a challenge. To tackle these issues, backdrops showing how the money will be put to use will be placed in the stalls. Two videos, one about “Food challenge” and the other for “Peace Wall” will also be made.

To pay tribute to the soldiers of our nation, Nirmaan has organized a new initiative called “Peace Wall” wherein a wall will be set up somewhere inside the campus where students can pen down their feelings or messages that they want to convey to the soldiers. After Oasis, the wall would be taken to the Wagah border and presented to the Border Security Forces personnel.
