English Prof Show

Artist: Guthrie Govan

Guthrie Govan, the prodigal electric guitarist from England is on tour, and BITS Pilani is the fifth stop in his itinerary. He is known to have collaborated with virtuosos like Hans Zimmer and Steven Wilson, and has also produced music with bands like The Aristocrats, The Fellowship, and The Young Punx. The Oxford-educated guitar expert, who is revered in the rock and jazz-loving circles of the music community, is all set to perform during Oasis, on the 28th of October. He will be joined by bass guitarist Mohini Dey, who has previously teamed up with the likes of A R Rahman, Zakir Hussain and Steve Vai, and drummer Gino Banks, from the fusion band ‘Nexus’.

Hindi Prof Show

Artists: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy

Playback singer Shankar Mahadevan (of Breathless fame), guitarist Ehsaan Noorani, and multi-instrumentalist Loy Mendosa, are gearing up to set the stage on fire on the 29th of October. This musical trinity has been credited with composing critically acclaimed soundtracks for more than fifty films in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and English. They won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction in 2005, for their work in the Bollywood film Kal Ho Na Ho. They also captured millions of hearts with their compositions from My Name is Khan, Taare Zameen Par, Rock On!, Dil Chahta Hai, and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Their music is known for its unique blend of Carnatic, Hindustani, and Western Rock elements. Their concerts are famous for the electrifying music and infectious energy, and this Prof Show is a must for music-lovers everywhere.

Classical Prof Show

Artist: IndoSoul

The band IndoSoul was started by Karthik Iyer from Chennai, with the aim of breaking down superficial barriers between genres, instruments, and cultures to produce music that suits everyone. The band consists of Vikram Vivekanand on the guitar, Reshwin Nishith on bass, Ramkumar Kanakarajan on drums, Sumesh Narayanan on the mridangam and percussion, and Karthik Iyer on violin and vocals. Their goal, in their own words, is to draw their audience’s attention to the beauty and intricacies of Indian classical music and educate them about the philosophy of music. The band is all set to enthrall spectators on the 29th of October.

N2O: Comedy Prof Show

Artist: Abhishek Upmanyu and Jaspreet  Singh

Abhishek Upmanyu has touched upon a variety of topics during his acts, ranging from breakups to discrimination and porn. But the comedian from Mumbai has never failed to elicit laughs from his fans, and is known for his brutal honesty and quick-witted humor. Jaspreet Singh has travelled all around the country with his witty one-liners and desi humor in tow to make people laugh. He is being brought under the banner of Bingo Comedy Adda and has formed his unique brand of humour inspired by his Punjabi upbringing. The techie from Gurgaon was introduced to the world of stand-up comedy only a couple of years ago, and has been performing ever since. Upmanyu and Singh are to perform for the BITsian junta on the the 31st of October, in a show that promises to leave the audience in splits.
