APOGEE is an integral part of a BITSian’s life and has given our college a unique place among the many institutes in India. Since its inception, it has been a platform for new ideas, wherein students have used their knowledge and skill to conceptualize technological innovations and bring science to the common folk. Every year, the fest attracts several vibrant personalities from across our nation for talks, presentations, workshops and many other events.

The 1989 edition was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Kumar De, the erstwhile Chairman of Atomic Energy Regulations Board. The fest also saw all discipline associations display their technical prowess through exhibitions. Of note was the one by the Pharmacy association, which conducted blood, ECG and other tests, informing the “subject” about his/her physiology. Scientific papers written by BITSians were also presented, many of which were lauded by members of the scientific community present. Several guest lectures were also conducted. Some speakers were Dr. S. Passi, who brought up novel concepts in “Problem Solving Techniques,” Dr. L. Ganesh on “Technology Forecasting” and Prof S.N. Sinha, who delivered the valedictory address and distributed prizes.

Other events include, screening of “Return of the Jedi,” DELPHI–the All India Debate and Overhead Transmission, an intercollegiate quiz. The fest also featured several demonstrations by professionals from across the country. One of the popular ones, was done by students of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, which emphasized the importance of good design in product sales and engineering.

Through its multitude of events and great successes, APOGEE 1989 proved that the only thing that the many meritorious minds of India require, is a platform to showcase their talent. And APOGEE serves that very purpose even today. It has always strived to be ahead of its time, displaying the cutting-edge progress of science and technology year after year.
