The eighth edition of BITSMUN concluded its three-day journey on the 12th of February, hosting over 300 participants from across the country. These three days saw the little hamlet of Pilani buzzing with international affairs and diplomatic lobbying as the participants engaged in fruitful discussion towards pressing world issues.
Five committees that come under the ambit of the United Nations were simulated in the conference. The committees UN Women and ECOSOC were college simulates while African Union and GA SPECPOL came under the school ones. A special committee with 17 hours of continuous debate and negotiations, acting as the UN Security Council was one of the highlights of the conference.
Experienced MUNers were called upon from different MUN circuits to preside over the committees with four members of BITS Pilani also finding a place in the Executive Board, in an attempt to make the experience more enriching for the society as well. School participation from Birla Public School, Birla School Pilani and Birla Balika Vidyapeeth in the local front, and large delegations from schools like SRNIS and IIS from Jaipur and colleges like NSIT from Delhi on the national front also added on the participation quotient. Considering BITSMUN’s association with QED under the header of Vox Populi, The prof show conducted on Saturday had the band Knight Shades perform, giving tribute to Elvis Presley. The conference saw a pleasant conclusion with the delegate dinner being organized in La Pizzeria.
Almost having fully recovered from the setback they had to face two years ago because of the swine flu, the BITSMUN Society, under the leadership of President Karan Mantri and Secretary General Anirudh Tusnial left no stone unturned to make this conference a resounding success. Evident planning and sound execution reflected the hard work put in towards the logistical and hospitality front. A grander and more successful successor to its previous editions, BITSMUN 2017, overall turned out to be a fruitful conference.
