From Cape Canaveral, Florida, John Hershel Glenn Jr. is successfully launched into space aboard the Friendship 7 spacecraft on the first orbital flight by an American astronaut. He was hailed as a national hero and went on to represent Ohio for four consecutive terms in the U. S. Senate.

The Soviet Union launches the core module of the Mir space station. The
core module will provide living quarters for the cosmonauts, including a galley, cooking elements, storage, individual crew cabins and personal hygiene area. Five additional modules will be launched between March 1987 and April 1996.

Sony announces the PlayStation 4 without bothering to share its price, specificatiimage007ons or even it’s hardware capabilities. In this announcement, Sony clearly showed that it was targeting the ‘gamers’ out there, rather than Microsoft’s more general push towards capturing household entertainment at large.
