As the coordinator of the BOSM Publicity Team, Aditya Saxena in an interview with the BOSM English Press gave us some insight into the work of this team.
The team has been made recently, having been started during the 2017 edition of BOSM. According to Aditya, they have spent two years trying to build their work plan and now have settled into a well-defined strategy of doing things. He explained that the purpose of the publicity team is to be the face of BOSM that is portrayed outside; they are the first source of information for BITSians, both on and off-campus. They are an interface of information, which also helps in the marketing and publicizing of the fest. They publicize all the events of the clubs that come under the CoSSAc. For the 2019 edition of BOSM, they have been following a well-defined marketing plan, which includes introducing social media campaigns.
Over the last two years, the team has changed significantly. Where earlier, they merely handled the social media handles, they now also help out with publicity on and off-campus. This has led to an increase in the amount of work for the team, which has further led to an uptick in the number of recruits. On the work side of things, Aditya’s experience as a coordinator has been one of learning thus far. In our interview with him, he explained that as the head of the publicity team, he is concerned about the work of every club involved, given his team’s requirement to publicize everything that they have been doing. Juggling academics with the responsibility of being coord has been difficult for him, especially over the week leading up to BOSM. ‘You have to prioritize some things, make some trade-offs. It’s a good thing that we developed a proper strategy during the last semester; it eased the burden a little,’ he said.
Finally, Aditya encourages all the first years to make the most out of this festival, it being the first one they experience. “I have seen that most of the first years are more study inclined, and hole themselves up in their rooms during the fest. This fest, however, is not only for the sportspersons, but for everyone. So come outside, and enjoy it.”
