Singles: 26-20, 20-10 (Winner: IIIT Kota)
BITS B – Rohil | IIIT Kota – Pranay
This match was held in the venerable Old SAC at the fourth hour of the afternoon (that’s 4 PM for the peasantry). Both players were as silent as the strikers at their command; their focus was sharp, their eyes narrow, their fingers poised to create the best display of their coordinated flicking since last night.
Pranay opened for IIIT Kota, dominating the queen early on in the game with a brilliant display of his finger-flicking skills. On the other side, Rohil’s attempt to incorporate projectile motion into his playing strategy led to the BITSian losing valuable points. By the time the fourth board came to a close, the score was 18-0 in the visitor’s (IIIT Kota for the peasantry) favor. By the sixth board, however, Rohil saw himself possessed by the BITSian Carrom God of legend. Strike after strike, the prospective engineer scored, drawing the score to an 18-20 in his favor.
Both players, after that, played to their favor. Rohil, having stopped his projectile motion antics, was scoring in a frenzy. But alas, Pranay’s superior skills had him clearly emerge victorious in the end, as IIIT Kota won the match in the 7th round with a final score of 26-20.
Doubles: 26-4 (Winner: IIIT Kota)
BITS B – D.Rahul and Nithesh | IIIT Kota – Krishna, BharIat
Happening at the same time as the aforementioned singles standoff, this match lacked much of the suspense that defined the other one. Both sides were relatively lax, choosing to focus their efforts towards clean shots in place of madcap attempts at glory. And while the BITS B boys attempted to escape their opponent’s buff digits in the 3rd board, the round ended at 12-4 with the visitors in the lead. IIIT Kota then continued their rampage, reducing the BITSian team down to a paltry 20-4.
With all hope lost, the BITS team finally saw the match conclude in a crushing defeat at the hands of IIIT Kota at the end of the 5th board with a final score of 26-4. Legend has it the explosions created by IIIT Kota on the board made it unusable, prompting the immediate purchase of a replacement.
