Sachin Gaira, the coordinator of the Mountaineering and Adventure Club (MAC) took time off his busy schedule to sit down with the Oasis English Press and give an insight into the club’s work during the fest.
Sachin explained that MAC’s main objective is to arrange treks and organise adventure-oriented activities during fests. The club consists of about 30 members.
Sachin said that their work begins during the summer itself when they start looking for prospective trekking locations. MAC then talks to its vendors regarding the best time to visit these places and checks if these dates coincide with the college holidays. MAC recently organised a trek to the picturesque Kareri Lake in Himachal Pradesh.
The club has grown from organising small-scale treks to holding large-scale ones over the past couple of years. Sachin attributes this to the rising trekking culture in India and the significant increase in the quality of phone cameras of the average college student. Each trek organised by MAC has been met by a huge positive response with the recent trek receiving over 400 registrations.
Sachin said that his experience as a coordinator has been memorable and he attributed the club’s success to his juniors. He expects a large turnout for the MAC events this Oasis. As a parting comment, he advised the Gen-BITSian to live their life to the fullest.
