With Oasis just a week to go and pressure, tension and anxiety building up, Anirjit Hom Roy, Coordinator of the Hindi Drama Club took out some time from his busy schedule to interact with the Oasis English Press and provide an insight on Hindi Drama Club’s working and club’s plans for the fest.
As the name suggests Hindi Drama Club is responsible for organising street and stage plays during the fests. The club is well-known for depicting complex, meaningful and dark themes with its plays. This Oasis , the club will be participating in Street Play Competition organised by the Department of Theatre (DoT). The club also organises a “Semester Production” wherein plays are organised for the BITSian populace. Although semester productions were put on halt for the past few semesters, the club plans to resume them soon.
The preparation for the drama begins well in advance to the main day. Rehearsals begin around 5:30 in the evening with mild exercises, cast members practise their dialogues in a process called “Blocking”. Simultaneous to the cast practising its part, the production aspect also swings into action. The club has witnessed packed houses during fests as well as Semester Productions and is raring to defend the title they won in Oasis last year.
Anirjit feels that this year’s theme is the coolest one so far and has been all praises for it. “Lights can tell an entirely different story,” he said. Anirjit feels that it has a lot of scope for implementation and with an amazing line-up of prof shows this year, he said that fest has the potential to be a great success.
Talking about his experience as a coordinator, Anirjit explained that this responsibility kept him busy, and even though at times it was difficult to manage time and assimilate people for practice sessions; they always do manage to reach a common ground, and thanks to a dedicated and hardworking team, Anirjit is confident that they will do well.
Talking about his experience as a club member Anirjit felt that the club has evolved a lot since his time and that the traditionally rigid hierarchy has given way to much more freedom for everyone. “There must be a free flow channel of ideas” he opined, “and a basic hierarchy must be followed but no opinion must ever be discredited.” Anirjit also thanked the StuCCA for all its efforts to help them professionally.
Concluding, Anirjit requested students to enjoy the fest to its fullest and not remain bottled up.
