This March, the numerous clubs on campus are collaborating to make Apogee a more complete experience by presenting the audience with numerous entertainment events, in addition to the string of workshops, paper presentations, online events and project displays that make up the four days of the technical fest.
Nityasa Mishra, the coordinator of the very dedicated Dance Club, was enthusiastic as she discussed about the performances of the club and the new styles being tried out for the fest. Apogee will begin with Mithali, the most awaited cultural night of the fest where all the performers are all set to stun the audience. The Dance, Music and Mime clubs combine their talents every year to make it an incomparable experience.
The ideation of the Dance Club performances began during the semester break and the practices kicked off in February. Nityasa believes that their reputation for professionalism is the result they obtain after all the efforts they put into their performances. The team for each performance is chosen based on the previous performance records of the members and often, auditions within the club. This time, the club is trying out Tango, a contemporary style and Tinikling, which is the folk dance of Philippines. Nityasa is proud to share that the members are always keen to learn new techniques and are ready even to move mountains to pull off a polished performance.
The main focus of the club is on Mithali night for Apogee and inauguration night for Oasis, but in contrast to Oasis, the club does not have other events to handle this time around. The members had participated in an outstation competition earlier on in the semester and stood second, and the club is planning to release a video in collaboration with FMac, Music Club and Raagmaalika later.
Despite the time and effort the club demands, Nityasa does not find it hectic, but believes that the club helps imbibe valuable time management skills , and has not hampered her academics or activities in other clubs. She admits that the learning curve had been steeper during her earlier days in the club, but it still teaches her new lessons everyday, with the added responsibility of being the coordinator giving her a more complete experience. Let’s wait and see what her team has in store for us this time around, and wish them luck in pulling off a brilliant performance.
