The coordinator of the Safety and Medical Advisory Council (SMAC), Mehul Gera, took time out of his busy schedule for an interview with the Oasis English Press. SMAC is an Institute Body whose key role is to provide professional help in the case of any medical emergency. They provide first aid and have paramedics on the scene throughout the fest.
SMAC, in general, ensures that all the facilities on campus are up to mark. They played a huge role in the installation of water coolers and its maintenance. The body took form after a tragic accident that happened to one of the students on campus. Since its establishment, SMAC has followed the mantra of better safe than sorry, ensuring that such incidents do not occur.
Mehul liked the Neon Noir theme of Oasis 2019. Compared to the previous years, he said that this year the concept wasn’t stale and it was eye catching. He believed that there is a huge scope to be creative with this year’s theme.
In the lead up to Oasis, SMAC has a lot of planning to do. Permissions to use cabs as well ambulances are acquired. They also work to get the budget pass for the paramedics ready and prepare the inventory list. Oasis is a relatively smooth-sailing fest for SMAC compared to BOSM when it comes to the number of people who require medical attention. Medically, most of the people are prepared during Oasis and the cases of people getting injured is uncommon.
When it came to his experience as a coordinator, Mehul doesn’t really think about it. He enjoys working with his juniors because they listen patiently to instructions and their work ethic is on point. In parting, he said that anybody can approach SMAC in case of any medical issues. He hoped that everybody has an entertaining and safe Oasis 2019.
