President

Rahul Bubna, the President of the Students’ Union took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to the EPC about his role as the Financial StuCCAn of the fest. His job entails allotting budgets for various clubs, departments and prof shows for Oasis, after consultation with the StuCCA.

According to him, Oasis 2019 has an excellent line-up with Nucleya, Sunidhi Chauhan and Biswa Kalyan Rath coming for the major prof shows. This year, the fest will be expanding itself to S-lawns. with a variety of food stalls and fun events being set up there as well. Informalz will have their stall while Chemistry Association will host a helium gas based event. Proximity to hostels like Ram, Budh, Malviya and Meera, will help in easy generation of footfall, in spite of most events being concentrated on the M-Lawns side of campus. Along with this, in keeping with the theme of the fest, “Neon Noir”, neon football will be organised. Further theme integration will be seen through the usage of black lights in the auditorium during Inaug. Performances by Dance Club and Mime Club will also showcase the use of neon lights.

Another feature of the fest will be the Oasis Store where, apart from merchandise, keychains, posters and mugs will also be sold. Neon bands like the ones available during EDM night of Oasis’18 will be sold throughout the fest. The store will function as another avenue to boost revenue generation.

Bubna went on to express his dissatisfaction with the fact that people go home during Oasis. “People say that Oasis is the second-largest fest in India but BITSians are not making it so. Most of them just consider it a holiday to be clubbed with Diwali week and do not end up attending the fest.” As for outstation participation, 1600 to 1700 people have registered for Oasis 2019, which is higher than that of the previous year. The President was confident that, even in the worst-case scenario, Oasis would at least retain last year’s participation.

Talking about his experience in the StuCCA, Bubna mentioned that it has been both “good” and “hectic”. “It’s not an easy job, managing the finances of the fest. You have to work with large figures, running into lakhs. The fest budget itself is more than 1.5 crores and it is not easy to handle.” He concluded with a request for all BITSians to attend Oasis 2019 as there are many new elements being experimented with.
