OEP recently had a chance to talk to Tanvi Gupta, the StuCCAn of the Department of Reception and Accommodation (RecNAcc), to get an insight into how the department works for Oasis. RecNAcc’s work comprises three major streams. The first deals with accommodating the outstation participants, professors, guests and celebrities. Secondly, they take care of the distribution and collection of inventory required by clubs and departments for their respective events. They also handle various logistics involved in the fest, along with providing tents, electricity and water supply for several stalls.
The RecNAcc culture has always been based on the togetherness of the recruits. Tanvi was quite proud of the work that her department has put in for a solid month and a half in preparation of the festival. She feels that the only problem RecNAcc faced last Oasis was the quality of living in the Staff Quarters, as the institute had given them access to the same a bit too late. Considering the revised scheduling of Oasis and BOSM on the calendar this year, work began well in advance, and Tanvi is quite confident that these issues won’t recur.
Tanvi appeared quite excited working as the StuCCAn, having been through every job profile in RecNAcc. As a member of the StuCCA, she was also involved in overlooking all the major aspects of the fest. She remarks that her role has helped her understand all the intricacies involved in organizing such a major event. With the theme Neon Noir, she believes that Oasis has continued its tradition of introduce something new and unique to the BITS populace. All events have been planned keeping the theme in mind, and Tanvi promised that the campus would transform into a place that even Martin Scorsese would be proud of.
Lastly, Tanvi urged BITSians to respect the effort taken to accommodate the participants by not taking advantage of open common rooms and freely-strewn mattresses. She believes that Oasis 2019 is set to be a spectacle and that all the outstation participants would go back with a feeling of warmth.
‘You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave,’ she smilingly added.
