Ujjwal Gandhi, co-ordinator of the Renewable Energy club, took time out of his busy schedule to be interviewed by OEP on the work the club is doing for Oasis. The objective of the club is to promote the use and development of renewable energy and the technologies related to it. The club started off as a technical club six years ago. It has since strayed from that path but under new direction from Manoj Soni, they are getting back to their roots. They have been recommended multiple projects by him, the most recent being the development of a solar cooker. They have also participated in competitions such as ‘Earthian’, held by the Wipro Foundation.
Ujjwal has noticed a shift in the industry towards green and renewable sources of energy. In an institute like BITS Pilani, it is important for budding engineers to learn more about renewable energy.
The club is holding an event for Oasis for the very first time. The name of the event is ‘Protest out of waste’. Teams have to create visual media from waste provided such as metal scraps and plastic bottles. They can earn more resources by playing short games and it and it requires them to be efficient and effective with what they have. The club hopes for its participants to have fun as well as gain some publicity through the event they are holding.
