FitBITS Run

Written in February

FitBITS, in collaboration with the Renewable Energy Club, organised the BITS Pilani Green Run—a 3km run at 5 PM on 23rd February 2020. This was organised under the aegis of the Green Week— a part of APOGEE 2020. Green Week is aimed at increasing awareness among the BITSian populace regarding the issues of sustainability, climate change, and reforestation. The aim of this event was to ensure that BITSians come together and not only learn more about these pertinent issues, but also take fitness seriously.

The run—which had a turnout of 85 people—started from the Clock Tower. The runners then circumscribed the campus before finally stopping at GymG. This was a non-competitive run. The organisers felt that people around campus should take up the issues being promoted via Green Week and work to preserve the environment. The Renewable Energy Club decided that for every individual who completes the 3km run, they would be planting a sapling on the campus grounds. The organisers felt that this effort would contribute in a small way to the overall preservation of the environment.
