Laser Show

Written in February.

On 21st February 2020, the entering batch of 1965 and the Alumni Relations Cell (ARC) organised a 3D video projection and laser mapping show as a part of their Golden Jubilee celebrations at Rotunda. By illuminating the Clock Tower using lasers, the alumni batch shared with the campus experiences of their student life.

This was the very first event of its type on the campus and it attracted a large number of students across all years at Rotunda. The event began at 8:30 PM with entry being restricted to the NAB passageway in order to streamline the crowd.

The event began with a performance consisting of laser patterns and shapes, synchronised with music, projected from a standard laser show projector. This was followed by an interesting story that documented the journey of the very first batch of BITSians, the entering batch of 1965. From arriving at the dusty Loharu Junction to the idiosyncrasies of college life, the show narrated the adventures of the batch. The animated story depicted the way the first BITSians had led their life on campus by drawing an interesting contrast between how their time on campus was different from the way current batches look at their campus life. Among the anecdotes that were shared were the very first student elections, the inauguration of the night canteen, the theatre, and the advent of the ‘Junkers Broadway Musical’, a moniker used to describe a handmade radio fashionable in the ’60s.

The show ended with a section highlighting the spirit of BITS Pilani and how its graduates had carved their place in the upper echelons of various industries all over the world. Overall, the atmosphere of nostalgia created a surreal ambience which was appreciated by alumni and students alike.
