With APOGEE around the corner, Jay Panchal, the coordinator of the Comedy Club, commonly known as ComHub, spoke to the APOGEE English Press about the club’s activities during the fest.
Since its inception in 2019, ComHub is organising fest events for the first time this APOGEE. It hosts regular open mics and also entertains the crowd with its other events. The club will be hosting three events this year, two of which will be pre-fest events. The first one is ‘Back to School’, which gets college students nostalgic about their ‘good old school days’, according to Jay. School games, both outdoor and indoor ones will be organised by the club for this event— pitthu, nadi parvat, and pen fight are some of the ones Jay listed. He believes that after a long online stint in college, this event will be ‘a breath of fresh air’ as students gather to relive their childhood days.
The club’s second pre-APOGEE event is a comedy show, with performances by the club members in the NAB auditorium. The last event, which will be held during APOGEE, is called the ‘Y-Comhubinator’. This is an improv comedy set involving the audience. The club members will pick out the best jokes and performances from groups of five.
Jay said that the club has been meeting regularly for ideating and planning their events. They have been preparing sets for shows, rulebooks for the games, and working out the details for crowd management as well as publicising their events on social media. He added that the club tries to not delve much into the managerial aspect of events but rather stick to the event ideation itself. The club provides its members with a circle of like minded people and helps them improve their common skill. For Jay, managing the club has been great and he believes that it has given him invaluable experience. Coordination and communication are pivotal while holding events in a fest and he hopes to see a huge footfall for all of the club’s events. Jay strongly encourages all students to come for the same.
