Carrom – Keshav Rathi

The BOSM English Press (BEP) reached out to Keshav Rathi, the Captain of the Carrom team for BOSM 2022. The game of carrom consists of nine dark-coloured pieces and nine light-coloured pieces (one point each), a red queen (five points), a striker and a square wooden board of 72-75 centimetres per side with pockets located at each corner. The goal is to collect 25 points by pocketing the pieces using the striker.

Keshav reminisced that he had not been selected in the carrom team trials in his first year. He joined the team in his third year and made his way to captaincy. When asked about his experience as the team captain, he said that it was more responsibility than power. Practice sessions had been held from 8:30 to 10:30 PM every day and used to be quite flexible, but in the weeks before BOSM, the team practised everyday. He explained that inventory was a major issue for all sports, and they have been using the InterBITS inventory so far. Keshav mentioned that his interactions with the institute and the CoSSAc could have been more prompt and efficient. When asked about the colleges that would be their major rivals, he said that he would keep an eye out for BITS Goa. Recruitments take place every semester, and all batches are welcome to try out. He added that there had been eight new recruits for the carrom team, from the 2020 and 2021 batches collectively. Keshav said that the Carrom team of 2019 was the best from Pilani, and he hopes to carry forward the legacy.
