With BOSM just around the corner, the BOSM English Press spoke with Darshan Walchale, the Coordinator of the Department of Sounds.
When asked about their work during BOSM, Darshan mentioned that there are several events held in the Main Auditorium such as stage plays, dance events, professional shows, and comedy events for which they provide ‘live sound reinforcement.’ ‘We are responsible for making sure everyone can hear what is happening and is having a good experience,’ Darshan explained. BOSM has a few outdoor events as well but according to Darshan, they are not as complex as the auditorium events. He elaborated that such events need only a couple of live technicians to ensure the speakers are plugged in and working.
As for the department’s preparatory work in the weeks leading up to the fest, Darshan shared that there was not much preparation to be done apart from taking inventory. They had to get information on the events planned and make sure they had the required equipment. Apart from the fests, the Department also works year-round to manage various events. They recently had the Department of Management event in the NAB Auditorium and Gurukul Nite in the Main Auditorium. He also added that they have gotten an additional speaker and are using new technical configurations in the Main Auditorium that they hope will fix some issues they have had with sound quality in the past.
Sharing his experience as coordinator, Darshan simply noted that he had not yet faced the ‘peak of the experience.’ As a parting note to the readers, he said, ‘Listen to good music.’
