Department of Informalz

The Oasis Coordinator of the Department of Informalz, Arjav Jain, had a conversation with the Oasis English Press to give an insight into the department’s work for the fest.

When asked about the events that Informalz will conduct during Oasis, Arjav explained that their events primarily cater to BITSians. They often do not participate in many events and prefer to ‘roam around with their friends and chill’.

Informalz organises the Treasure Hunt (T-Hunt), which is a kernel event in Oasis. It sees a participation of about 3000 people who come in teams of about ten to fifteen, making this their most ‘well-known’ event.

Their second event, Beg Borrow Steal, is one where teams are given four hours to procure items from a list of over a hundred. He added that not all of these items are tangible, which is why creativity is always appreciated while obtaining them.

Arjav said that the third event, the Entertainment Quiz, would be organised in collaboration with the English Language Activities Society (ELAS). He said that the format of the event is unconventional, with some very creative rounds and questions. ELAS drafted the questions, while Informalz came up with the formats for each of the rounds.

Their new event, Game Room, will feature a suite of three games. The first game would require participants to recreate famous paintings within a minute. The second, Pretentious Ditzy Arguments, would have participants debate about ‘absurd’ topics. Arjav described the third game to be a ‘better version of Red Light, Green Light’.

Arjav said that the preparatory work included a lot of brainstorming, especially for the T-Hunt clues. He explained that the mid-semester examinations’ schedule and BOSM interfered with their pre-fest work.

Informalz is expecting a great BITSian turnout, considering this is the first Oasis in three years. The interview concluded with Arjav advising the attendees to participate in all their events for the sake of having fun with their friends.
