With Oasis around the corner, the Department of Stage Controls is all set for the plethora of events that will be taking place in the auditorium. Ayushmaan Sharma sat down with the Oasis English Press to talk about his experiences preparing for the first offline Oasis in three years.
The Department of Stage Controls works backstage—arranging production equipment as per the designs given to them. Working in tandem with the Department of Lights and the Department of Sounds, they aim to create the perfect stage setup. During the non-fest period, Ayushmaan said that the department had an easy time as they were called in only if a club wanted to use the auditorium. With a jam-packed schedule during Oasis, however, the department has to continuously keep changing the stage setup.Â
Although their work usually centres around backstage setup, Ayushmaan mentioned that this time, they are also working with the Department of Live Events (DLE) in conducting production work. DLE will look after the production work for events happening outside the main auditorium while the Department of Stage Controls will be in charge of events happening inside the auditorium. Ayushmaan added that the new recruits are aware of the nuances of the job and are performing their tasks efficiently.Â
The pre-fest work for Stage Controls started as early as September and involved understanding the logistical requirements of production work. Ayushmaan stated that despite this being the 50th edition of Oasis, the department’s workload didn’t change since the logistical requirements remained the same.
Ayushmaan shared that he was overjoyed to be finally working for an Oasis after three years. He concluded by asking BITSians to keep an open mind during Oasis, especially those about to experience their first Oasis. He encouraged participation in all the events and hoped that everyone has fun throughout the five days.
