Oasis bears witness to thousands of participants from across the country. It is a massive task to keep track of all participants, and ensure that everyone abides by the rules. We managed to catch up with Mano Vihari, coordinator of Firewallz and talked to him about the registration process and their role in the fest.
Firewallz undertakes two major responsibilities during Oasis. They play an important role in the registration process. The participants first arrive at the Firewallz booth located at the gate. Here, their proof of identity is verified after which they are directed to the Controls booth located at FD-2. In addition to this, we ensure the smooth running of the fest. In addition to this, they ensure that cases of indiscipline are swiftly dealt with. “This goes on from the beginning to the end of the fest. We have been given authority by the Chief Security Officer to take necessary action”, he asserts.
The department starts its work immediately after BOSM ends. “We usually stop a couple of days before the mid-sems. There are 9 days after this to recheck things and it seems like adequate time”, he says. He is of the opinion that most of his juniors have learnt to optimize their time for the better. “I am incredibly thankful to them. They have been very eager about ensuring that everything is perfect”, he adds.
The work and responsibilities that come with being a coordinator hasn’t placed much of a burden on Mano. “Like everything else, it’s a different experience. I’ve learnt a lot from everyone around me. The work hasn’t been too hectic either”, he says with a grin.
From their perspective, everything seems to be fine. We are hopeful of everyone having a fun and safe Oasis.
