“This year’s events are going to be better than ever before. We are working hard to bring in new events that will thrill the audience.” Thus began my talk with the co-ordinator of Mountaineering Club, Ved Purohit, who seemed to be really excited about organising these events. “We started work only a week ago as we do not actually require a lot of groundwork. The only event which requires some actual physical work is paintball, which we will take care of during OASIS.”
“Paintball is one of our signature events. Every year close to 400-500 people participate in this event and it is a showstopper. We made attempts to get laser guns this time, but due to some technical glitches, this plan had to be dropped. This time we have not been allotted the Krishna Parking lot and hence hope to organize it in front of Workshop. Paintball is a low-budget, high-profit event and we expect trends to continue this year.”
The biggest event of the club this year, though, is going involve ATV Bikes. “ATV stands for All-Terrain vehicles and these bikes are like quad cars. We have brought in two of these monsters for our event. Participants will be allowed to drive around in a ring sized area. We are looking at areas to host this event for we need an area as large as the Rotunda. This is going to raise the heat during OASIS and will surely take it to a whole new level”.
Also on the plate are zorbing and archery, according to Ved. “Zorbing is a common event during most of our fests. In this two people are allowed to occupy a rolling ball. This BOSM, zorbing was organised in Gym-G by Department of Live Events (DoLE). During last APOGEE, it was held near Krishna Bhawan. This year the location is uncertain, but it is definitely one of the events”, he added. He also emphasised that safety was of prime concern this time after one participant got injured during zorbing in a prior event.
He expressed concern over a clash of dates with Rendezvous, the annual cultural festival of IIT-Delhi, but maintained that OASIS this year is going to beat anything seen before. “This year OASIS is bigger and better with more events, better prof shows and more participants.”
