Work is in full swing for the 60 member team at Photog, the Photography club of BITS Pilani to justify this Oasis’ astronomical expectations. The team with Rishabh Jain at the helm expect to raise the bar for the club and set a standard for the club to follow in the future. “It will be better than it ever was!” he exclaims.
Photog has a plethora of exciting events lined up this year, ranging from exhibitions to photography contests. Exposure, an exhibition composed of photographs contributed by Photog members, is a must-visit feature of every Oasis. Showcased at 2204 in FD II, the unique manner of presentation makes it stand out. Multiple panels are set up, each of which is backed by a coherent central theme. “This way of presentation is what makes it better”, says a proud Rishabh.
Photog also plans on organising a contest as part of Exposure where photography enthusiasts and professionals can get together and compete. In addition, two online contests will be conducted. Oasis Through My Eyes will be held where contestants send dazzling photos they have captured of the Oasis ambience and winners get their photos published! Selfie addicts may rejoice because Expressions, the selfie contest, is back again this year! Click photos of yourself getting crazy and having the time of your life.
Preparations for Exposure and the other events began several months ago – from brainstorming for the themes to capturing and choosing the exact photos that go with them. Rishabh says that this is a lengthy process and people don’t always realise and appreciate the amount of work that goes into it Apart from organising these events, Photog also undertakes the responsibility of covering anything and everything that happens during Oasis. It’s these mesmerising snaps which you and world outside will see on people’s Facebook walls, and on official fest pages. “The work that Photog has done reaches students outside the institute” he adds. Photog relies on its gargantuan online presence, a 5400 strong army of followers on Facebook and Instagram for publicity, marketing and creating hype for its events.
“Photog is a like a close knit family, we learn with each other and from each other” he adds fondly. In his opinion, photography is about the perspective and individualistic flavour you can bring to the frame. “I like being behind the lens and capturing my view of the world”. He says managing academics of a Dual with these new responsibilities is challenging, but he can do them both justice by keeping a clear head, having a firm grasp on priorities and managing time accordingly. When asked about his message for the gen public, he said, “Keep clicking, think different, stay alive!”
