The APOGEE English Press recently had the opportunity to conduct a brief interview with Aryan Verma, the coordinator of the BITS Pilani student chapter of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), to discuss their involvement in APOGEE 2023.
As a chemical engineering association, IIChE aims to showcase and promote chemical engineering while accommodating other disciplines. This year, they have expanded from a single event last year. They will organise three technical events, including a workshop on R, a language used in data science. The other events include Case-by-Case, a chemical engineering-based case study event; ChemPoker, a trivia competition based on recent research progress in the world and the history of chemical engineering.
IIChE is incorporating the fest’s theme—Hivemind Genesis—by emphasising the importance of data science and machine learning through the workshop on R.
During the interview, Aryan admitted that the preparation process for APOGEE 2023 was challenging, with ideation being one of the biggest hurdles they had to overcome. They brainstormed ways to increase participation while working within a budget. Additionally, managing the required forms and paperwork for the festival was another obstacle. Despite these challenges, Aryan described his experience as a coordinator as a good learning opportunity.
When asked about the organisation’s history and future prospects, Aryan mentioned that IIChE has evolved from a small club to a rapidly growing one over the years. This year, they are introducing workshops and plan to continue to improve each year.
In conclusion, Aryan encouraged BITSian students to have fun and learn from their experiences during the festival. He also extended a vote of thanks to the CoStAAns for their guidance and support.
